Serif fonts are a natural choice for printed materials because they are characterised by good legibility. You can recognise this type of font by the small lines attached at the end of the strokes.
A nice example of a serif font is Liberation Serif. This font family contains 4 styles: Regular, Italics, Bold and Bold Italic. Each of the fonts contains uppercase and lowercase letters, numerals, glyphs, punctuation marks, and supports a variety of languages. The fonts are available for free for personal use.
Thanks to Steve Matteson of Red Hat for this awesome serif font. Be sure to visit his portfolio where you can find lots of other interesting fonts.
